Poetry Class Admissions

"I had an unforgettable experience with CLI. I made great friends. And each friend contributed to my growth as a poet/spoken word artist. They also connected me to so many poetry venues and events. I would gladly recommend this class to the next upcoming poet. By the way, Mr. Hiram Sims is the ABSOLUTE BEST!!"
Marquitta L.

Application Process

At CLI's Poetry Publishing Class, we're dedicated to helping passionate poets like you turn your dreams of publication into reality. With our structured curriculum, workshops, resources, and community initiatives, we provide the guidance and support you need to jumpstart your author journey. Ready to take the first step towards your publishing journey? Here's how to join:

Step 1: Apply

To apply, complete our online application and submit a writing sample showcasing your best work. Your application will be reviewed by our Application Committee, so be sure to include a cover letter detailing your writing interests and manuscript goals. For poetry applicants, please submit three of your finest poems.

Step 2: Audition

Once your application is reviewed, you'll be invited to an audition, either virtually or in-person depending on your region. At the audition, perform 1-2 of your best poems for our admissions team. Don't worry if you apply later in the semester; we accept applicants on a rolling basis and will schedule an interview for you.

During your interview, you'll discuss your plan to create, edit, and market your book. This is your chance to showcase your passion and commitment to your craft. The Application Committee will respond to your application within 1 week of the interview.

Step 3: Acceptance

Upon acceptance, you'll be notified by email and added to the chapter in your region. If the chapter is full, don't worry; we'll place you in another chapter nearby or add you to our waitlist for a future. For those in regions without a chapter, our National chapter offers a 100% virtual experience.

Enrollment Process

Step 1: Register

Once accepted, poets have 7 days to pay their registration fee of $90. This fee covers administrative costs and ensures your enrollment in the class. Please submit your payment promptly to guarantee your place in the program.

Step 2: Enroll

Additionally, poets must enroll in the class before the end of the first month of the semester. This ensures that you have access to all class materials and can fully participate in the program. Don't miss out on this opportunity to embark on your publishing journey with us.

 Step 3: Attend Orientation

As the final part of the enrollment process, all students are required to attend a new student orientation session. During this session, you'll receive important information about the program, meet the CLI team and fellow classmates, and familiarize yourself with the class structure and expectations. Attendance at orientation is crucial for ensuring a smooth transition into the Poetry Publishing Class and maximizing your learning experience.
